Wichita State University, in partnership with the Raytheon Corporation, has implemented a program that allows for the growth and enhancement of qualified mathematics and science teachers to increase student skills in high tech areas of employment. Building on the established strengths of Wichita State University and melding the interests of industry for improved science and mathematics education, the Raytheon Teaching Fellows Program was established.
The purpose of the Raytheon Teaching Fellows program is to encourage more talented people to obtain the content knowledge and learning strategies required to become teachers of mathematics or science. We are accomplishing this by providing scholarships and advisory support to students who are studying to become teachers. To assist the new teachers in the transition into schools, we have also developed a mentoring program which will pair the new teachers with experienced classroom teachers and university faculty.
