Apprentice Level: Robot Race

Description:
Find out how fast your superbot is! Your bot will race across the finish line.  Scoring is based on how fast you go and when you stop. Another race is for how slow you can go and when you stop.

-All robots must start in the box.

-From the declaration of “Go” the time begins and your time is recorded. Then, your team will return (after changing the robot – likely changing the gearing) and run the race and your “slow” time will be recorded.

-Each robot receives 2 scored runs on the course for both the ‘fast race’ and the ‘slow race’, with the score received being the better of the 2 received during these runs.

The challenge will run for 2 minutes (fast) and 5 minutes (slow) or when your robot stops, whichever is earliest. Your robot must be moving forward the entire time of the challenge.  If your robot is still for more than 2 seconds after starting the challenge (or if it moves backward) your challenge run will be over and your score will be tallied. If your robot roams off the course, the challenge run will be over and your score will be tallied. For final location, the robot must be entirely contained in a section to receive its points.  If it straddles 2 sections in ANY way it will receive the lesser point value. Fastest time will be gauged against times of other teams in scored runs.  Times in runs where the score was not taken will not be considered. Additional points will be given based on your time in order of finish. Scoring is summarized in the table below:
