The week chosen to be set aside
for Fire Safety Week, was no accident. On October 9, 1871, 300 people
were killed in the Great Chicago Fire. After rebuilding, the people of
Chicago decided to honor this day with festivities. 40 years later it
was decided to use this day not as celebration but to raise awareness
over the hazards of fire and how to prevent fire related tragedies. |
