District Health Standard: Explain the importance of check-ups and following sound health advice.

Lesson Summary: To help students become familiar with the importance of check-ups and what occurs at a check-up.

Instructional Input:

  1. Ask students if they have been to the doctor lately for a check-up. 

  2. Go over the vocabulary words:  check-up, medicine, shot, cure, and vaccine.  Discuss the purpose of each one.

  3. Have students complete the WebQuest.

  4. Discuss with students the information they learned from completing the WebQuest and any questions they may have.

  5. Role-play. Your friend is scared of vaccines.  Tell her why they help people.  And why she should get a vaccines.

  6. Now let’s pretend that you are a doctor.  Your friend needs a check-up.  Tell your friend what will happen at a check-up.

  7. Discuss with the students the importance of following the doctor’s directions.

  8. Administer assessment.
