Travel Funding for Technology Conference Presentations (TCPs)  and other Professional Development Opportunities (PDOs)

Rationale and Description:  The College of Education’s U.S. Department of Education Models, Mentors, and Mobility (M3) grant has identified a pool of funds to provide financial support for activities that contribute to the professional growth of faculty in the specific area of integrating technology into classroom instruction.  Examples of potentially fundable TCPs and PDOs are:

$    Travel to a professional conference to present a paper describing one’s efforts to integrate technology into classroom instruction or to describe one’s experiences with a new technology (e.g., personal digital assistants, robotics, etc.);

$    Attendance at a workshop or conference that will aid in developing skills related to technology integration into classroom instruction/learning; and

$    Visiting innovative or exemplary sites to see technology integration projects.

$    Online workshop fees.

Eligibility:  Tenured and non-tenured faculty and unclassified teaching professionals in the Colleges of Education and teacher education faculty in the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Fine Arts.

Application Process:  A TCP/PDO application form must be completed for each TCP or PDO request (maximum of two requests per academic year).  The application form is available at http://education.wichita.edu/m3/models/teachered/pdo/request_form.htm and requires (1) a description of the proposed TCP or PDO,  (2) a rationale for the TCP/PDO request, and (3) a detailed budget request.

Applications may be submitted at any time via the M3 web site. Funding requests will be reviewed monthly by the Project M3 staff. A summary report of any funded travel must be completed and submitted within one month of the completed TCP or PDO.

Funding:  Each request may range from $50 to $500.  Awards may be used in conjunction with funds obtained from other university, college, or department sources. No more than two TCPs and/or PDOs will be funded per applicant during the 2001-2002 academic year.
