Online Interaction Guide for Students

List of 10 rules for your students that will provide guidelines for online interaction

**"Top 10 List"  for Instructors: http://education.wichita.edu/twitherspo/bakersdozen.htm

Top 10 List for Students:

1.      Know your computer and its capacity.  Be prepared to locate another computer resource in case of technical difficulty.

2.      Take charge of your own learning.

3.      Participate in a “Community of Practice.”

4.      Do not think that you will spend less time because we don’t meet f2f.  Set aside adequate time to finish assignments.  The key is not how much time you will spend but how convenient the time will be.

5.      If you are having any kind of problem e-mail the group and ask for help.  If you do not get a  satisfactory answer e-mail the instructor.  The instructor will share the problem and solution with the group if others might learn from the situation

6.      Learn the interface of the system you’re using.

7.      Follow the suggested pacing for each week.  In order to get feedback from classmates you must allow them time to reflect on your posts.

8.      Find a study buddy in class.  Sometimes it is easier to ask a question of one person first before posting to the entire group.

9.      Be clear and concise with your dialogue.  Sarcasm can be construed negatively.

10. Use emoticons to convey emotion that would be non-verbal in a f2f dialogue.
