Clay Animation
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
The Making of...
The Making of Clay Characters by Kendall It takes a lot of patience to make little people called clay characters. You need pipe cleaners, foil, and Styrofoam balls. You wrap the pipe cleaners into a figure that looks like a person. Then you wrap foil around it, and stick the Styrofoam ball on top of the pipe cleaner. After the foil is on the pipe cleaners roll out any color of clay that you would like for the clothes. The shoes need to be really thick. They almost look like blocks. If you are using a metal table for filming then you can put magnets under the shoes to help your character stand up. Make sure you use clay to cover up the Styrofoam ball for the face and the head.
The Making of the Scene by Jacob We used a tri-fold board to make our scenes. We used real grass to make it look like the children were walking through the fields. We had to draw a schoolhouse with crayons and markers so that everyone would know that part of our movie took place at the school. It was a lot of fun to work together as a group.
Animation by Misty Animation isn’t very hard. It is really fun. Maybe a little bit confusing at first but you’ll soon get the hang of it. While you are animating, you have to make sure that your hand isn’t in the way while you are filming. You also need to make sure that you don’t move the scenery or the camera.
Brainstorming and Ideas by Rebecca We took our chapters (seven and eight) and found the major details. Then we put them together to make the scenes. We had to make sure that we knew which characters we needed and we had to make sure that we didn’t leave out anything that was important!
