The Making of Clay Characters
We spent a couple of days just making the clay characters for our movie.
It was fun to work with the pipe cleaners, foil, and clay. Each of the
characters finally started looking like people after we added the hair. Before
that they kind of looked like aliens!
The Making of the Scene
Our scene for chapters eleven and twelve had to show all of the smoke and
the flames from the big fire. We needed to draw cars to show how everyone drove
up to the Avery’s house really fast. We drew one scene on one side of the
cardboard and the other scene on the other side. We flipped the cardboard over
when it was time to change scenes.
Animation by Andrew and Austin
Watching the other groups film it looked easier than it actually was.
There are four jobs that need to be done—narrator, animator, cameraman, and
editor. The clay characters move like real people. When your animate you take
a picture and then move your characters just a little bit before you take
another picture. The narrator talks into the microphone to describe what is
happening in the scene after all of the filming has been done.
Brainstorming and Ideas by Marina
We had to go back to the book many times so that we could make our
storyboard. A lot of times we disagreed on what we had to do, and what we
needed to put on our storyboard. We all had really great ideas, but they were
all different. We did a whole lot of brainstorming and we finally worked it
out. Once we worked it out we were able to film, come up with great ideas and
have a really good time doing this project!
