Elementary Students Meet Governor

Fourth and fifth students displayed technology know-how and their communication skills to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and state representatives at the Education Technology Fair at the state capitol in Topeka, KS.

The students and their teacher Dorothy Perry were thrilled to be selected for the 14th annual tech fair Feb. 6, 2003, that showcased exemplary K12 technology projects. Wearing bright red shirts with their white "Palm Pioneer" logos, they demonstrated how they are using Palm handhelds, acquired through H.E.L.P., in all subject areas. Their presentations were thoroughly prepared.

What they hadn't expected was a spontaneous visit with the governor. She saw the bunch of students and stopped to talk with them for several minutes in the hallway. So the Kellogg Science-Technology Mangent students had another opportunity to show their stuff and do a little impromptu lobbying as well.

Dorothy reported that the Governor seemed interested in what the students had to show and tell. "What would be incredible is if the kinds of experiments going on here and the kinds of equipment you see here were available to all kids," said Sebelius.
