| Here are
the resources that are H.E.L.P. favorites and used in our
professional development:
Getting a Handle on Handhelds provides a framework for planning
and implementing handheld integration, from creating visionary
leadership to the daily practicalities of supporting infrastructure.
The Instructional Technology Department of
Wichita Public Schools offers a practical
Handheld Computers site.
The
Handheld Educator is a supplement of Technology & Learning
Magazine. In addition to useful articles, the publication features
productivity and managements tips and an innovative lesson in each
volume.
A favorite resource,
Learning in the Palm of
Your Hand, is the premiere site
of Hi-CE (Center for Highly Interactive Computing in Education at the
University of Michigan), which has been at the forefront of educational
handheld use.
Palmtops: Computing @ Every Student (Hirsch,
Hewett & Atwood), available from
www.ftcpublishing.com,
contains practical classroom management and deployment advice, along
with lessons and activities. Each school received a copy.
The final evaluation of the
Palm Education
Pioneer grants disclosed that teachers were overwhelmingly
positive about the increased student motivation, collaboration and
communication handhelds promoted.
Palm
Handheld Computers (Curtis, Williams, Norris, O'Leary & Soloway)
offers lessons aligned to ISTE standards. Copies for each school were
provided.
pdaEd.com
features articles and discussion forums for educators. H.E.L.P.ers
found the tutorials on downloading Palm software particularly helpful.
Project M3: Models, Mentors and Mobility offers many additional resources and
information for K20 handheld integration.
