The Handheld Educators Leadership Program
was launched in the summer of 2002 as a collaborative project
between the college of Education at Wichita State University and the
Instructional Technology Department of the Wichita Public Schools.
The objective of the project is to investigate use of handheld
computers to improve student achievement, create standards based
curriculum, and to develop educational leadership in use of handheld
technology in the classroom.
H.E.L.P.ers meet each month to learn new applications, share success
stories, and discuss management strategies. Each school takes
turning hosting these after school meetings. For details about some
of our sessions, visit our
Success Stories.
In H.E.L.P I, teams from eight schools
in the Wichita school district participated in a year-long venture.
Four of the schools were given classroom sets of 25 Palms while four
additional schools insisted on joining the effort.
H.E.L.P. Teams
introduces the schools and describes how they were selected.
Additional funds were allocated for keyboards and other peripherals,
software and books.
H.E.L.P. II began in fall of 2003. |
