Creating links |
|||
Types of links |
|||
| Between
your website and another website . |
To create a link
between your page and someone else's page, all you need
is the URL of that page. Select the text on your page you
wish to show as a link, then use the link editor to
create a link to the other page. You will need the whole
URL including http:// This is called an absolute link. |
||
| Within a
website |
To create a link to
other pages within your website, you can use the editing
program. Select the text you wish to show as a link, then
use the link editor to browse to select the page in your
website you wish to link to. The link editor will only
enter the name of the file. This means that whenever you move your website, all the pages will stay linked to each other even if the name of the server and the folder change. This is called a relative link. |
||
| Creating anchors or bookmarks within a page | You can link text and graphics to different parts of a page. This is used most often in a table of contents or a navigation bar. | ||
| Creating
links to graphics. |
Use the graphic
button to browse to find the graphic you want to show on
your page. The program will create a link to the graphic
file. One caution: you must remember the name of the
graphic file so you can choose it from your list of
graphic files in your website. The graphic to the left has been linked to this page. It does not link to another page or site. If you move your cursor over the graphic, you will not see a browsing tool appear. |
||
| Using a graphic as a link to another page or anchor | Select the graphic
and then use the link editor to enter the URL or file
name you wish to link from the graphic in your page. The graphic directly to the left has been set up as a link to the Creating your graphic page for this workshop. Move the cursor over the graphic and you will see the browsing tool appear. If you like, click on this image to take you to the graphic page. |
